This term, our exciting topic is Around The World And Home Again!
Please visit this page often to see what Green Class have been up to.
Back before half term, Green Class created some gymnastics sequences in groups of 2 or 3. Each sequence had to include high and low movements, a cartwheel, forward roll or handstand (or all 3!) and counter balances. The children could choose which piece of gym equipment to use, to make it more challenging for our expert gymnasts!
Our Minibeast Board Games!
As part of our learning in Science, we made minibeast board games, based on the life cycle of a minibeast of our choice and the problems that affect its life. Our games had to have an attractive, colourful board, handmade pieces and instructions on how to play!
A Midsummer Night's Dream!
We have been studying 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' by William Shakespeare in our final English unit of the year - playscripts. We performed a Royal Shakespeare Company primary school version of the play for our parents' open afternoon and we are now using the play as inspiration for our own playscripts.

The Tin Forest!
This term, Green Class have written some wonderful stories with an environmental message. As inspiration, we read The Tin Forest by Helen Ward and used this as our Talk For Writing text. We talked about all of the other stories we knew that contained clear messages and then wrote our own fantastic stories, with a strong focus on authorial viewpoint. We made them into real books and then designed made some tin forest animals to go with them...
Stained Glass Windows
In RE, we have been thinking about our local community and how to make it a respectful place. We designed and made stained glass windows, using sticky-back plastic and tissue paper to show what our community means to us. We also think that our windows make our community look much more respectful!
These are our windows!

Christmas Visits to the Rosemary Goddard Centre!
On Monday 5th and Monday 12th of December, Green Class walked to the Rosemary Goddard Centre in Lynch Close, Mere for some end of term visits.
At the centre, the children were fantastic and proved themselves as a credit to the school as they cheerfully chatted to the elderly people and shared work from their WW2 topic books. Both children and adults learnt lots, about life during the war and life at school in 2016!
At the end of each session, the children sang a selection of war time and Christmas songs and everyone joined in.
All involved enjoyed the visits tremendously and the children did everybody proud.
Merry Christmas, everyone!🎄

Year 4 Football Team Win First Game!
The Mere School Year 4 Football Team
On Thursday 10th November, the Year 4 football team won their first ever school match, which was a friendly against Milton on Stour Primary School. The score was 8-1 and the goals were scored by captain Ollie (3), Travis (3) and Callum (2). Man of the match was Sean, who had a fantastic game in defence. The game was played in great spirit and all of the Mere and Milton boys showed great sporting attitudes. Well done boys!
If anyone knows of any wonderful people who were alive during the time of World War 2, who would be willing to give their time to come into Green Class and talk to the children about their experiences, please could they let Mr Rich know?
After our current 3-week Talk For Writing project on historical stories, we will be writing newspaper articles about the war. This unit of learning will begin on Monday 26th September and last for 3 weeks. It would be fantastic to have some quotes from local people who could tell us what they remember during that time.
Thank you for your continued support!
Year 4 Handwriting Example
A video showing our new Mere School handwriting script. This short clip shows letter and digit formation, along with some patterns that we are using to practise fluent joining of letters. The video takes a few seconds to start but it is well worth watching if you would like to help your child practise their handwriting... Thank you for your continued support. Mr Rich.
