We had the most fantastic day out at Longleat looking at all the different animals and the habitats they live in. We managed to visit Penguin Island, Jungle Cruise, Animal Kingdom, the Butterfly house and even squeezed in a ride on the train before having lunch by the house. Then we spent the afternoon going around the safari.
We were very lucky, seeing really good views of some animals that regular visitors rarely see. Nico, the old gorilla came and gave us a good looking over, allowing us to have a good look back at him. The hippos were spotted in the distance, but sadly too far away for us to get a picture. We also managed to see Ann the elephant, but by the time we got around to her enclosure we could only see her bottom! We hope you enjoy looking through the photos. We had an amazing day and the children were an absolute delight.
The chicks had their first venture outside at the weekend. They are still too young to stay outside all night, but as it was a warm day I set up a run in the garden for them. They enjoyed being out on the grass. They are all getting bigger and are starting to loose their down and grow proper feathers.
We had a great day out at Manor Farm this week. Farmer Keith gave us an informative talk about what happens to the wheat and barley that he grows on his farm. We went on a tractor ride around the farm, seeing sheep, cows, swans and the lake. Then we went on a fascinating walk to visit Silton Church and the Wydham Oak tree which is many hundreds of years old. There was also and opportunity to 'milk' a cow and explore some of the farm machinery.
Design and Technology
Our topic this term was to 'Design a Healthy Snack'. On Monday, the children spent some time trying different crackers, spreads and salad toppings, before deciding on a cracker, spread and topping for their own 'healthy snack'. On Tuesday they made their own snack, and then got to eat it! The children really enjoyed this task, and it was a pleasure to listen to them discussing smell, textures, likes and dislikes. I'm pleased to say everyone tried everything, even things they said they really didn't like.
We had a lovely afternoon walking through Mere looking at the different types of houses. We sat by the Church to do some sketching.
Science - our new arrivals!
We have started to look at our Science Topic about Plants, and we have planted some cress seeds. We are hoping they will grow and give our pots some hair!!
This term we have learnt about the story of Joseph and his Dreamcoat in RE. We have practised printing repeating patterns to help us design our own 'Dreamcoat' for Joseph. As part of our Design and Technology, we leant how and the sewed our T-shirt together. Finally, we printed our pattern onto our T-shirt.
During Computing this week Silver Class have been using their coding skills to set a programme for the Blue Bots to follow.
We made a few mistakes but we had a lots of fun learning.
We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day. We read our book 'Have You Filled a Bucket Today', which is all about how doing kind acts makes us and other people happy. Ask the children to tell you about it. We then did some 'happy activities', coloured buckets, made cakes to share and painted 'happy pictures'.
We also spent some time shared reading with the older children.
This half term we are looking at Health and Hygiene. Today we set up an experiment to see what happens to food if we don't wash our hands before touching it. We will let you know what we find out!
Welcome back to Silver Class! We hope you had a lovely Christmas break and we are looking forward to an exciting 2017!
Our topic for this term is 'Heroes'!
Please have a look at our topic web to find out what we'll be learning about this term. We will continue to add photos as our topic progresses so please keep checking the Silver Class page.
Remembrance Day 2016
For Remembrance Day 2016, we decorated crosses with poppies and wrote our own acrostic poems.
We are investigating Materials in Science. We went out onto the playground to see how many different types of materials we could find, and to see what those materials were used for. We found out that the same materials could be used different things e.g. wood for play equipment and for fencing.
