At Mere School we start the formal teaching of Times Tables in Year 3.
In Key Stage One the children will focus on learning and recalling number bonds, however they will experience counting on and back in steps of 2,5 and 10.
By the start of Year 5 it is expected that most children should know the multiplication facts (and their related division facts) up to 12 x 12 and should be able to recall them quickly.
In Years 5 and 6 we will continue to practise them.
Year 4 MTC Check
The Multiplication Tables Check is an assessment that all Year 4 children complete throughout the country. The purpose of the MTC is to check that children can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for their future success in mathematics.
Schools have a three week window in June to complete the MTC check. Children complete it using an online assessment.
The school support the children in learning and recalling these facts but it is also essential that they practise them at home too.
Miss Chapman and Mrs Cocker ran a parent information meeting with ideas about how you can do this on Thursday 6th February 2025. The information that they used can be accessed in the slideshow below.
